Burgundy is the new black!

26 Apr 2024

It seemed that burgundy was on the lips of Milan's visitors in more ways than one this year. Perhaps most prominently, the shade appeared around the city in glasses of negroni sbagliato, which seems to have dethroned the classic Aperol Spritz from its long-held reign.

But when it comes to furniture, there was no shortage of deep, dark red shades. The real "Aha!" moment of this year's Milan Design Week was Gucci's exhibition at their flagship store. Sabato De Sarno, the fashion house's new creative director, reissued five Italian design classics in their signature "Ancora Rosso" red, showcasing pieces in surreal, light-green-carpeted rooms. This exhibition fused key themes of the design zeitgeist: reverence for design classics and the blurred boundaries between fashion and interior design.

The unmistakable design icon, Minotti, this year presented new furniture pieces made from natural stone, lacquered wood, leather, and bouclé in the Ancora Rosso color. Visitors were greeted with two lacquered parallelepipeds in the reception area extending to the ceiling, as well as two horizontal lacquered blocks serving as reception counters.

This beautiful dark red color could also be seen elsewhere, for example, in the strikingly dark exhibition "Attracted to Light" by Dimorea.

It has also appeared in the latest collection by Galotti e Radice, as well as in presentations by other brands such as Molteni&Co, Poliform, and Baxter.

New finishes include Lepanto Red marble for kitchen tops and Tuscan Brown steel, Midnight Oak, Cloud Gray, Warm Gray, Cream, and Caramel melamine, as well as Iris and Cappuccino lacquers for panels.
The combination of varied materials and interplay of solids and voids create a dynamic and sophisticated kitchen. Large pull-out trays, open-ended drawers, and under-top trolleys complete the project.
An aluminum load-bearing structure allows for completely suspended compositions. Technological innovations such as discreet aluminum door handles for enhanced grip and the innovative Pivot hinge, enabling doors to open at 180 degrees, demonstrate true innovation.
